Come join us on an unforgettable journey with Captain Barry Kanavy as he guides you through the beautiful bay on the South Shore. Step aboard our specially designed 24-foot bay boat, crafted to navigate the shallow tidal waters with ease. Immerse yourself in this enchanting landscape, an estuary nestled between the mainland and barrier beaches – lagoon, marshland, and meandering waterways – a labyrinth of nature's design where every twist and turn reveals hidden wonders waiting to be discovered, where the ebb and flow of the tides reveal the rhythm of rich and diverse wildlife.

Throughout the year, the ever-changing migrations of wildlife above and below the water's surface offer a fascinating glimpse into their world. Journey to nesting areas to observe bird families or watch seals as they feed or bask on grassy banks, all unfolding in harmony with the Seasons. You will witness the spectacle of migrating birds such as Hawks, Falcons, Ospreys, and Bald Eagles, alongside an array of Shorebirds, Herons, Egrets, Skimmers, and different kinds of Ducks, among many other species that call this place their summer haven.
Whether your interests lie in fishing, beachcombing, exploring clam bars, or studying the inhabitants of the shoreline and aquatic animals of all kinds. Crustaceans and mollusks from snails to horseshoe crabs, shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops or oysters, and the list goes on.

Captain Barry Kanavy
Your Guide
Captain Barry Kanavy brings over fifty years of experience as a United States Coast Guard Licensed Captain, he possesses an unparalleled depth of knowledge and understanding of the waters he calls home. Growing up on these shores, Capt. Kanavy was a true bayman from the start. His younger years were filled with explorations along the coastline, sparking a lifelong passion for the sea. Apprenticing under seasoned baymen from a rich lineage of fishing traditions, he honed his skills immersing in the wisdom and heritage passed down through generations.
When he joined the U.S. Navy, his skills enabled him to serve as the Master Helmsman of three aircraft carriers. Following his naval service, he became a respected boat builder, then he was invited to be the first Orvis-endorsed fishing guide in the region, sharing his expertise and passion with anglers eager to explore these bountiful waters. Having raised his own family here, with nine grandsons and one granddaughter, he cherishes the opportunity to introduce young minds to the wonders of the natural world. As he guides others through these familiar waters, Capt. Kanavy remains deeply engaged in maritime pursuits, a testament to his enduring connection to the sea.

Wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, bird watchers, and avid learners alike are encouraged to join in. This year, treat yourself and the young ones in your life to a summer camp experience like no other, as Bay Camp Charters offers an up-close and personal encounter with the marine wonders of Long Island.
What does a typical day entail?
Arrive dockside in Seaford and set sail at 9 AM, embarking on a four-hour exploration boat tour before returning to the dock at 2 PM.
What do you need?
Ensure you have Coast Guard-approved flotation vests, rubber shoes or sandals suitable for wading in shallow waters, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, lunch, and plenty of water. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult, and we highly recommend adult accompaniment for younger children.
Bay Camp Charters kicks off our 2024 season on June 24th, through September 5th, 2024.

- Payment via Venmo is accepted
Cost is $175 per person per day, with accompanying adults enjoying a reduced rate.
