Shellbanks Heritage
Shellbanks was a name given to this location by the local indigenous inhabitants (Tackapusha Indians) of the Seaford area more than three hundred years ago.
This location was used by the Indians to bring their seafood harvest ashore. Clams and oysters were shucked, the shells were then crafted into wampum (Indian currency)
on this same ground, leaving a pile of shells that could be seen from the bay almost a mile away.
